Details

Designed to compliment modern miniature HF transceivers such as the Youkits HB1B or the Elecraft KX1, the Band Hopper IV covers 20, 30, 40 and 80 metres (3.5 - 3.7MHz 1.5:1 VSWR bandwidth using our "Hopper Jump" system)  in one neat package. Using all our innovative techniques and laser-cut hardware, the Band Hopper IV works straight out of the packet on all your favourite portable band. Full sized dipoles on each band means no-compromise performance. Not sure what a linked dipole is? Click here.

The Band Hopper IV covers four HF bands with a high efficiency full-size halfwave dipole on each band. It's not a compromise loaded antenna. It's also designed to allow you to get the feedpoint high - that's important for good performance. Band selection is by easy-to-use jumpers; quick to change!

Using the Band Hopper IV could not be easier. The custom designed centrepiece fits on an tapered pole (such as our famous SOTA pole). It slides down to the optimum height (usually the junction between the top and second sections of the mast). If you don't have a tapering mast don't worry, the centrepiece has slots for cable ties too so you can attach it to most anything. Don't like masts? The centrepiece has an attachment point for a throwing line to use in the forest.

Unrolling the dipole elements is a breeze using the Wirewinders supplied. When you unroll the elements you will notice that the Wirewinders are attached to 4m (13ft) nylon braided extension cords. This not only means that you cannot lose them but also that in rocky areas you can guy your pole by putting the Wirewinder in a crack in the rocks or just by putting it under a rock. The Wirewinders also make great snow anchors too so guying your pole in the snow has never been easier! We also provide pegging loops for use with our high quality pegs (included).

The feeder is a 10m length of RG174 pre-terminated in a BNC plug. This is wound on a third Wirewinder. Also on the third Winder is a 10m back guy for your mast. No need for any additional guys and the two dipole elements plus the back guy are all you need for a stable and robust system. The back guy is attached to the Wirewinder to give you the flexible guying options above. Just a mast or use a nearby tree to support the centre of your antenna and you're good to go!

This Band Hopper IV is super light too! The whole package consisting of the antenna, the Wirewinders and the back guy weighs in at less than 475g; that's under 17oz!

No need to adjust the Band Hopper IV, it is supplied pre-tuned. We do the tricky stuff leaving you to have the fun. This is a fully assembled product that works out of the packet.

Each Band Hopper IV is supplied in a stylish carry bag complete with lightweight aluminium pegs.

The Band Hopper IV is a truly amazing package for a bargain price.

Balun

The Band Hopper IV is supplied with a high performance ferrite-core balun; not just a few turns of co-axial cable!

    Excellent system for portable operations

    Posted by LB4FH on 24th Nov 2017

I got my band hopper a few months ago, and have done many successful activations with it. The build quality is good, and it is nice and light weight. The SWR is good over all the bands. The only disadvantage is the size of the antenna once erected, it requires a large amount of space, which may not be available on certain summits. Other than that I've been very pleased

    Fantastic

It’s simple, it works, and it’s light. With this great antenna there is one less thing you need to worry about organising for an activation.

    Band Hopper IV

Posted by Baz GD0SFI on 8th Jul 2017

Lost a couple of masts in a storm and decided to put up a temp aerial. After using this don't think I need to erect any others! Works well from my QTH and am enjoying good reports! Thank you Richard.

    I Can Not Say Enough

Posted by Al Manchester on 7th Jul 2017

So my review is based on my purchasing experience, delivery, and usage of my SOTA Beam. The purchase was online, completely painfree. I received my package containing my dual band SOTA Beam, extra guy setup and the 30'mast in record delivery time, phenominal !!! The packaging was incredible,no damage to anything. Setup is easy and effortless, and the quality and craftsmanship is great. I was on vacation this past 4th of July week and set up Beam at the campsite and proceeded to make contacts to 10 countries and 6 of the 13 Colonies contacts. Again,I cannot say enough about the SOTA Beam other than i'm about to purchase another...just to have a spare !!! THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOLKS FOR A GREAT PRODUCT AL MANCHESTER

    2 Years and 100+ Activations

Posted by Rob VK4FFAB on 1st May 2017

The 80->20 linked dipole is almost indestructible. Over the last 2 years I have use this antenna portable doing Sota and WWFF activation's, base camping at the beach and just about everywhere in between. It has been used and abused and not looked after, its fallen over, been stepped on, tripped over and dropped and its never failed me, until my last trip away when I broke the dipole center. Yes, I broke it, it was not anyone else fault but my own. So i emailed Richard to BUY yes BUY another center because lets face it after 2 years of abuse its warranty has run out HIHI and Richard offers to send me a replacement free with my next order. Cannot complain about that, I wanted the switched inductor kit anyway to make a L Match tuner so order made, free parts coming and I am back in business for another 2 years or more before i break it again.

Brilliant and so well made !!!

Posted by John Haddleton on 1st Apr 2017

Thanks Richard for excellent service and a great antenna to use with my Elecraft KX2 doing /P . I have, however made a couple of mods to it that I think are worthwhile.... The Bandhopper IV is now a 'V' as I have cut the dipole at the 60M point, and used the 'freebie' bits you sent to accomplish this. Beyond this, as I quite often operate in poor weather, I have changed all the connectors to Anderson Power Poles, which I think give a more satisfactory connection than the Croc Clips. Its always a pleasure doing business with you..., and I love my WSPR Lite and Power Conditioner too. Thank you !! 73 de John M0OBU .... http://m0obu.net

    Nice lightweight linked dipole

Posted by Jan Timmers on 7th Mar 2016

I've recently started using this linked dipole. I use a SpiderPole fiberglass mast, and push the apex of the dipole up to about 30' high (9m roughly), then run each leg of the dipole down to the ground using the supplied aluminum pins (or any convenient thing if it's where the guy ropes end up down near the ground). So I've really only used this in an inverted V configuration, and it works very well for me. I'm using this with an Elecraft KX3, usually less than its full 15w power output - in most cases it's about 5 watts to conserve battery - I use this setup for portable operation, as my home is located in a neighbourhood with antenna (and other) restrictions. Luckily I'm only 10 minutes walk from a really desireable location in a local park on the beach of a beautiful lake - VE7JBT

    Performs as advertised

    Posted by Dudley / KM4IYQ on 17th Aug 2015

Great performance in a very light weight portable package! It fits great inside my backpack and deploys easily and quickly. A great companion for my KX3. I have enjoyed many QRP contacts around the USA and Canada and take it with me everywhere I go for portable Ops.
