The SOTABEAMS PowerPole® Fuser-6 makes light work of connecting five accessories to your power source (it has one input and 5 outputs). All the connectors are individually fused. In a typical shack you might have a 100 Watt HF radio, a 50 watt 2m FM radio, an antenna tuner and a QRP rig all connected to your Fuser-6 - and still have a spare connector!

The Fuser-6 is supplied with 3 x 25 Amp and 3 x 5 Amp fuses. Standard automotive blade fuses make replacement easy - these are widely available with values from 1 to 30 Amps. The Fuser-6 incorporates a polarity warning system; lights GREEN for GOOD and RED for REVERSE. This is handy when you have a battery connected to the system to help avoid damage to your equipment if you accidentally get the battery connections wrong (just make sure you connect the battery to the Fuser-6 before connecting any of the equipment - it is only an indicator, not a shut-off!).

Naturally we have designed the Fuser-6 to be light and rugged too. The Fuser-6; at home in the shack or in the field; it's perfect for DX-pedition use. It's already proving popular with Emcoms and RAYNET users. The Fuser-6 is easy to mount at home, just drill and screw through the rear of the box.

The Fuser-6 internal circuitry is rated at 25 Amps (30 Amp surge); no mean feat for a PCB design. To achieve this, we use a PCB with ultrawide copper tracks on both sides of the board, double the normal thickness of copper (most PCBs use 1oz / ft2, the Fuser-6 uses 2oz / ft2), and plated through vias carefully located to ensure an even current distribution between each face of the board.

This is a unit built to a high specification! Of course the Fuser-6 uses genuine Anderson PCB contacts too for lower contact resistance and improved reliability.

The tracks on the bottom of the board are left bare (no solder mask) - this makes it easy for you to solder wires to them, to add extra connectors or extra functionality.

The Fuser-6 is available in three forms.

  • The board kit is great for people making a Go-box and wanting to mount the Fuser-6 as part of their project.

  • The board kit plus enclosure is a nice one-evening project that is suitable for constructors of all ages and abilities.

  • And, of course the Fuser-6 is available built and tested too!

For best results make sure that you use a soldering iron of at least 50 Watts. Additional flux is also helpful to ensure a good result.

    This kit fulfills my expectations fully. All the components were in the bags and it took me about an hour to solder it together. Face-plate is also very nice, you can see the bi-colour led to verify if the voltage is not reversed. So a 5-star review from me.

    Nice kit, easy to build.     A nice, simple quick project with a really useful end result. Having an 80W soldering station helps. Lightweight and robust, its easy to see why amateurs the world over standardise on Anderson PowerPoles for their power solutions.

    A neat little solution to supplying multiple 13V loads, and with fused outlets. Mine are on the outputs from battery supply for portable, or a modified Blade psu. in the shack. Don't make the mistake of too long wiring from the battery or psu.

    PCB Assembly

    This was an easy PCB to assemble, however i refined my method quickly. The Fuse Holders were easier to solder in if Rosin Flux was used in the pre-tinning process before insertion into the PCB. This enabled an even solder quantity to be delivered to each post. My soldering iron was 25 watts and adequate for the job. I purchased the PCB Kit only but thing that it would have been better to buy the complete kit, as I now have to mount the completed PCB,this is more time to finish the SOTA Project. 73's Martin ZL1MX

    Really happy with the kit. Arrived quickly and all parts were correctly supplied. Instruction were clear and i found them easy to follow. For reference, the LED needs to be mounted as per the graphic on the board even though its polarity will not match the marking also on the board. Personally i would suggest that this small piece of info is added to the instructions as it did cause me to check the polariy and operation prior to soldering the LED on to the board. Great kit, very satisfied

    I needed a convenient system for distribution of power from my 12v solar power system. I wanted a neat panel just above my work desk so that I can plug in a HF set or soldering iron etc. I looked at home brew but power pole connectors tend to be quite expensive, it seemed like the best option was to order the parts only distribution panel kit from SOTAbeams. Once soldered, the board works as advertised. I opted to make an enclosure from a sheet of perspex and a double mains socket back box - this cost roughly £3, and in my opinion still looks pretty smart. The PCB was hard to solder, especially the fuse holders, I'm experienced (and certified) in soldering but it took a lot of effort to get the joints to look nice. I'd say it might be beneficial to pre-tin the fuse holder connectors before assembly, but it may to problems later on (soldering fuses to holders by accident). Overall - quality product, works well when assembled, but assembly not as easy as it looks.
