Our 7m poles are perfect for lightweight portable radio operating. They represent the optimum balance between weight and height for applications where the poles must be carried to site. Longer poles are hard to manage in many conditions.

Note that we usually glue on the base cap of the 7m pole, as otherwise it tends to work loose and fall off. If this is a problem, please leave a note in the "Order Comments" box when checking out and we should be able to supply an unglued one.

Base caps on 10m poles are not glued. The top and base caps are push fit on the current 7m and 10m poles, but tend to stay on a bit better on the 10m poles.

Dimensions and weights approximate.  Poles may differ from the pictures in colour.

"Must-have" Accessories

Pole bags: protect your pole with a durable nylon storage bag.

We also supply guying kits and insulators for our poles. Click the links below for details:

Applications

All our poles will support a lightweight longwire or dipole antenna with ease and are readily erected by one person. They will stand a moderate wind if properly erected. Each pole comes complete with a set of instructions and our suggestions on how they might be used.

Other Uses

These poles are also ideal as the top section for home-station vertical antennas.

A few people have purchased them for use as quad spreaders. People have also bought them to use as elements for lightweight HF yagis - six poles would make a near full-sized 3 element beam for 20/30m if attached to a suitable boom. Four poles could make a nice "Moxon Rectangle" antenna. One person bought four poles to use at the end of the elements of his 80m yagi!

Just what was needed and very sturdy.

Posted by Unknown on 15th Apr 2016

Quick and easy to erect and to pack up these poles have proved to be extremely handy and very sturdy under some quite demanding conditions - though we did feel it best to avoid stress testing them when winds recently reached more than 65 mph. Would however recommend allowing for greater high than actually needed to avoid unnecessarily straining the ends and being conscious about the load one is expecting the pole to carry though we have found they will easily take a reasonable weight of antenna.

    Excellent quality product

Posted by Stephen M0ROF on 11th Apr 2016

Excellent product - comes in sturdy plastic case and can be erected in around two minutes. Sturdy and flexible. Don't forget bungie-cables to tie it if you're using it in the field. Must also mention excellent service from SOTABEAMS.

    Great for portable operation

Posted by Robert on 7th Sep 2015

I use my 10 metre pole to support an inverted V dipole for 40 metres. The pole is strong enough to support a mast head trifilar balun transformer and coax. Because of the increasing levels, now very high, of background noise where I live I decided to try portable operation away from noise sources. My first application of this set-up was in Diggle on the canal footpath during the British Waterways On The Air weekend. I used two roof rack bungees to fix my 10 metre pole to a canal footpath bench seat. Within minutes I had the antenna setup and worked Denmark and Italy - notably with very low background noise. The versatile top antenna insulators from Sotabeams helped me fix the trifilar balun transformer to the mast head and as insulators at the wire ends.

    Good Product

Posted by Peter on 22nd Aug 2015

I used my 10 metre pole for a horizontal dipole for the 20 metre band. Living in a complex I wired up the extended pole and placed it out of my upstairs window into a large tree with the centre of the pole resting on a tree branch and the remainder being in free space in the overhanging tree - which goes over the canal. I was thus able to erect a stealth antenna, high up (3 stories) which no could object to. Good reception reports from as far away as Moscow. One tip to learn is that if the furthest section falls into the holder as did mine, it is possible to fix it by removing the end cap and pull the displaced section out and then push it back onto the extended pole again.

I was a 'little' apprehensive when I unpacked this..I mean...come ON...THIS is going to be SEVEN meters high? Yep! its is! very very impressed, its easy to set up, and just as easy to take down, and packs away very neatly. Highly recommended.

    Incredibly useful,alarmingly flexible

Posted by Andy Barbour - M1HZZ on 12th Jul 2015

But strong. Make sure it's adequately guyed and with either the Velcro straps or the metal car stand you have a perfect easy to erect portable system. First time round was a bit fiddly when I used the Sotabeams 3 band dipole and the car stand. Due to a restricted space I couldn't lay out the antenna and the wires kept twisting around each other as I raised the pole but having learnt from first time mistakes everything has gone swimmingly since. You may need some effort to release the bottom cap on the pole but it does come off! Great piece of kit! I bought the ten MTR version and it is more than adequate!

    Quick Service

Posted by John G3VGU on 23rd Jun 2015

Excellent service with email updates. Good quality pole ideal for me in a sheltered housing complex so no permanent antennas. Quick to set up on a parasol base with a sloping end fed. Found a quick way of attaching wire near to top of pole with a 15a terminal block using the centre hole of a 2 way block.
